As Phil Mickelson found out at the 2016 Open Championship, great performances in golf are not always rewarded with wins.
This table uses
true strokes-gained and
expected wins (xWins) as two alternative ways of evaluating player performance.
While not perfect, these metrics do a better job of cutting through the randomness inherent to performance in golf.
Notes: Expected wins statistics do
not include the WGC Match Play or Zurich Classic team events. Separate expected win models
are used for 4-round versus 3-round events; 2-round events are not included. Expected wins for players who
WD or are DQ'd after 3 or more rounds are included
(AKA the
Jon Rahm rule). Wins and strokes-gained numbers include all events listed on the
player profile pages.
